The RSPCA recently launched their ‘Rooting for pigs!’ campaign. Like Pig Business, they are calling for:
• Clear and consistent labelling on pork products
• Better law to protect pig welfare.
Asda, Co-op, M&S, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco have already agreed to work with the RSPCA and the pig industry to develop clear and consistent labelling to put on pork products. Together they are trying to develop a set of definitions for terms such as ‘free range’, ‘outdoor reared’ and ‘outdoor bred’ so that consumers are able to make an informed choice about the pork they buy.
