Volunteering Opportunities

Research Volunteers

Salary: Voluntary
Location: London
Hours: Minimum of 8hrs/week
Position type: Volunteer
Contract: Fixed Term Contract
Closing date: Thu 30 June 11
Contact name: Jay Butcher
Contact email: jay[at]pigbusiness.co.uk

Pig Business campaigns against factory pig farming and it’s spread across the world; a system which abuses animals, pollutes the environment, threatens human health through dangerous overuse of antibiotics, and wrecks rural communities.

We are seeking to recruit a number of interns to undertake country research projects on various aspects of factory farming. Work will focus on researching the extent of factory farming operations in specific countries. Researching and building a rapport with key players/NGOs campaigning against factory farming will also be essential. This information will be used to produce a concise country report to help provide the film Pig Business as a tool to help campaign work across the globe.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience in conducting detailed, web-based research.
  • Communications skills, both written and oral.
  • An active interest in sustainable farming and healthy food.
  • Good attention to detail, initiative and an ability to follow processes.

Some experience in a campaigning environment is desirable but not essential. National experience or languages would also be a distinct advantage.

Please note it is essential that you have seen the film via the Pig Business website to understand the campaign.

Work can be undertaken from your home or in our Chelsea office; all reasonable costs will be fully reimbursed. Hours are flexible and interns can work around other commitments, but to achieve a continuum of work we require a minimum of 8 hours a week.

This is an ideal opportunity for anyone looking to gain valuable experience working in a dynamic and successful campaigning organisation.

Preferred start date: As soon as possible.

To apply, please send a CV to jay[at]pigbusiness.co.uk

Please include a cover letter outlining your reasons for applying and highlighting your relevant skills and experience.
